Maripositas Group

A loan of $2,900 helped a member to buy flowers, glue, ribbons, candies, beverages and fried food.

Maripositas Group's story

Maripositas is a group made up of 10 cheerful and enterprising people. Each of them has an activity: Luz María sells snacks, Maricela sells candies, beverages and wreaths, Maria de Jesús sells clothes, Dulce Maria sells pastries, Erika has a nutrition club, Alicia also has a nutrition club, Ciro has a metalworking workshop, Cruz Maria sells shoes, Joaquina sells candies and Oswaldo sells pastries. This group is located in Tierra Blanca, where the main economic activity is commerce and it is known for it sunny climate for a big part of the year.

Maricela is one of the members of the group. She is 47 and wasn't able to go to school. She is married to Arturo. She says that she has been a merchant for 27 years. Right now she sells from her home. She sells beverages, fried food and candies. In November she also makes wreaths to sell on the Day of the Dead because people buy them from her and take them to the cemeteries to their family members' graves. She has already started to make the wreaths, but she has asked for this loan because she needs to invest in buying more materials such as flowers, glue and ribbon to make the wreaths, as well as candies, beverages and fried foods to stock her store.

Maricela says that selling the wreaths is only once a year and she should take advantage because she sells a lot because she has been making them for years for her friends and customers who order them ahead of time. She hopes that with this investment her business will have good earnings since she would like to do some home improvements and do some work on her locale to sell snacks and beverages.

The Mariposas group thanks Kiva and VisionFund for the support they are giving through these loans.
