Perseverance: Cornelia is 40 years old and has a small business making milk candies. She is a member of a group called Perseverantes (determined). They decided to give their group this name because they believe that s/he who perseveres achieves; with a lot of patience and effort their businesses will prosper.

Cornelia is a happy and enterprising woman. She relates that over the past 10 years she has worked at making and selling milk candies, and that since she was a little girl her mother taught her how to make them and they used to go out together to sell them. Now that she has her own family she decided to put into practice what her mother taught her and make a little extra money to help with the household expenses. Cornelia has her customers and twice each week she makes her candies and the next day she delivers them to the stores or market stalls that have ordered from her.

With the loan she would like to buy the milk, sugar, cocoa, vanilla, and butter needed to make her candies. She hopes that her business will continue to progress in the future and that she will have more customers, increase her earnings and make some improvements to her house.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
