A loan of $7,575 helped to pay tuition, transportation and books for her Medical studies.

Raelina Del Carmen's story

Raelina Del Carmen is a young Medical student. She is requesting a loan to pay all her medical expenses.

This is my story: My name is Raelina. I am 21 years old and live in La Vega, the Dominican Republic. I was born and raised here together with my parents and siblings. My father works transporting rice and my mother is a housewife. I am single and have no children.

I am currently studying Medicine at UCATECI. I choose this career as it is my passion and my vocation. I have spent seven quarters studying 46 courses. The ones I like the most are anatomy and physiology as I could learn the functions of the human body.

I have decided to request a KIVA-FUNDAPEC loan as my parents are of modest income and cannot pay my education. If I am not approved for this loan I will have to abandon my studies as I can't fund them. Nor can my parents as what they earn is not sufficient for the household expenses and my education. This would alter my life radically as I wouldn't fulfill my dream of becoming a doctor.

My goal is to graduate with high marks and to serve all those who need it, to serve my country and my community.
