A loan of $1,225 helped a member to buy firewood.

Danaya Group's story

The Danaya group is made up of 6 married women who have an average age of 34 and, on average, 3 children. They live in traditional, extended families in the Dialanikoro district of Bougouni town. They got to know each other thanks to neighbourly and business relationships and friendships. They decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution in order to strengthen their financial capacity and better do business, and are on their 4th loan. The 3 previous loans have been correctly repaid.

Sitan, standing on the left in the picture, is the group member who sells firewood. She plans to use her loan to buy 12 cartloads of firewood from the wholesalers in Bougouni. She makes her sales for cash or credit, at the market and at home, to a retail clientèle mostly made up of women. She expects to make an average monthly profit of 45 000 francs which will be reinvested in her business and used to repay the loan.

In this group: Sanata, Kadiatou, Sitan, Diatou, Minata, Salimata
