Leticia Del Socorro
Leticia, 45 years old, is the mother of a 10-year-old daughter and the head of her household since her husband passed away. For about the last fifteen years, Leticia's primary work has been making clothing, which she learned by completing some training courses. These inspired her to open her own shop, and little by little, she has gained a clientele making all sorts of clothing. She also does work tailor work repairing seams and such for her friends, family, and neighbors. Through this work, she is able to generate enough income to support her home and provide her daughter with an education. She has also been able to buy her own home. Her drive, dedication, and determination have allowed her to rise above all adversity and come out ahead.

She is requesting this credit with the goal of purchasing an overlock sewing machine (serger) and various sewing supplies at wholesale, including thread, fabrics, elastics, and buttons. With these she will be able to improve working conditions and speed up her production so that she can complete her orders on time. It will also open the way for her to accept larger contracts, which would mean greater income. Leticia dreams of expanding her business and purchasing more sewing machines so that she can create opportunities for employment, expand her customer base, and continue to provide the kind of well-being that will give her daughter a bright, successful future.

Leticia, a sus 45 años de edad, es madre de una hija de 10 años y cabeza de hogar desde el fallecimiento de su esposo. Desde hace aproximadamente 15 años se dedica a trabajar la confección, actividad que aprendió realizando cursos de capacitación, lo que la motivó para iniciar su propio taller y poco a poco fue adquiriendo clientes a los que les confecciona todo tipo de prendas, adicionalmente realiza arreglos de costura a sus vecinos, familiares y amigos. De esta manera genera los recursos suficientes para llevar el sustento a su hogar y para brindarle educación a su hija; además tuvo la oportunidad de adquirir su casa propia. Su empuje, dedicación y empeño le han permitido sobrepasar todas las adversidades y salir adelante. Esto la motiva a solicitar el crédito con el que desea comprar una máquina fileteadora e insumos al por mayor (hilos, telas, elásticos, botones), así podrá mejorar las condiciones de trabajo y agilizará su producción para entregar los pedidos a tiempo y, así se abrirá paso a tener más contratos grandes, lo que para ella significa tener mejores ingresos. Leticia sueña con ampliar su negocio y comprar más máquinas de confección para generar oportunidades de empleo, ampliar su clientela y continuar generando bienestar y mejores condiciones de vida para darle a su hija un mejor futuro, próspero y exitoso.

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
