A loan of $1,600 helped to purchase school supplies and books.

María Ercilia's story

The communal bank “Dinámicas” meets every fortnight in the city of Tosagua, which is known for being very dynamic and where the majority of its inhabitants make a living from agriculture and raising animals as it is an area with a lot of vegetation.

Maria lives in Tosagua and is 68 years old. Several years ago her beloved husband passed away, but she has three children from her marriage and they were her strength in that difficult time. They are now grown up and are independent of her.

Maria has always liked earning a living for herself and her family. Together with her husband she set apart a space in her house, in which she set up a stationary store and bookstore, which is now the largest and busiest in the city. She and her children work there every day. In the months when there is more work due to classes starting, her sisters and their children come to help her. In this way she gets ahead and so does her family.

She is going to use this loan to purchase all types of school supplies and books with which to stock her business. She has been a part of the communal bank for fourteen years and she likes it because the loans are fast and are a lot of help. Her dream is to continue getting ahead in life.
