A loan of $375 helped to buy organic fertilizer.

Edith's story

Edith is 24 years old and is married to Máximo, who is the father of her young 5-year-old daughter, Xiomara. They live together in their own home made of wood. Her main work is in agriculture and in growing products that are the most profitable in her area, including organic cocoa, a plant similar to the guava-tree, and others.

She began this work together with her husband, but it was a type of labor that she learned when she was very young, growing up together with her parents in the agricultural sector. When she became independent from her parents, she did not have her own land. Thanks to her savings, she was able to pull together enough money to buy her own plot. For her regular tasks and work, she has organic fertilizer and tools that are in good shape; she uses them for weeding, cutting the stems on her cocoa plantations, and for other tasks that are necessary for a good commercial-quality harvest. When her products are ready, she harvests and later sells them to buyers; this allows her to recover the money that she had previously invested.

This is her first loan with Kiva, and she feels grateful for the financial support that she receives in order to move herself ahead. She promises to pay her installments on time. With this loan, she is requesting 1,000 soles to buy organic fertilizer.
