A loan of $3,875 helped a member to buy more sacks of charcoal to resell.

Starlight Group's story

Charles, who is in his late 30s, is married and has two children who are still going to school.

He has been running a business of selling charcoal for three years now. He works from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and is able to make a good monthly profit.

This will be Charles's eighth loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. He used the previous loans to open a small shop for fruits and vegetables and to increase on charcoal stock whenever he got a new loan. He has paid back all his loans successfully. He used the profit to pay school fees, buy a TV set and a radio, and pay household expenses. He will use this loan to buy more sacks of charcoal to resell. He dreams of opening a cosmetics shop.

Charles will share this loan with his loan group, "Starlight," which has ten members who will hold each other accountable for paying back the loan.

In this group: Charles, Beatrice, Daudi, Rhoda, Joyce, Mwajuma, Betty, Jane, Violeth, Scolastica
