Sinan is a mother of four children and a villager from Srey Santhor district of Kampong Cham province. She struggles to earn a living via rice farming on one and half hectares. She has been occupied with this business for ages and it has returned her about US $9 per day. This is not the first loan for Sinan with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). The successful past loan that she has repaid completely has enabled her to stabilize her living and keep her kids in school. However, the school fee of one of her children, who wants to pursue bachelor's degree majoring in English literature, is getting to be quite a burden, as it is the cost for university’s tuition fee. To overcome this challenge, she has applied for a new loan with VisionFund. Hence, this entire loan portion will cover the school fee for her son. She hopes that her son can get a good job after graduation.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
