A loan of $775 helped to buy pigs and feed.

Sandra Irene's story

Sandra is 25 years old. She lives in the San Gabriel precinct close to Santo Domingo do los Tsachila. This is a tourist area with spas, river landscapes, and friendly and simple people. This part of Ecuador has a warm and wet climate, and it’s where the mountains and the coast meet.

When she was very young, Sandra left home and lived on her own because her father was very abusive. Now she has an 8 year old, a 6 year old, and a one year old infant. Her oldest two kids go to school at a campus close to her home.

Sandra is a very hardworking woman. She’s been raised pigs for 5 years to support her family. She works every day of the week raising and selling the pigs at market. She works at least 4 hours a day doing this since she needs time to care for her children.

Right now she has 20 pigs and expenses for their feed. For that reason she went to Fundación Alternativa since she had been referred by an aunt who has worked with them for several years. Fundación Alternativa opened their doors to provide this loan. She invested in the purchase of feed and pigs with which she hopes to increase her profits. The profits will go towards improving a part of her home, since it remains unfinished, and improving her quality of life. She thanks the lending agency with all her heart for the help she’s gotten, and she thanks Kiva for the trust they’ve had in her.
