A loan of $550 helped to buy food items like rice, sugar, milk, and other products.

Carmen's story

Carmen, who is 46, is a hard worker. She lives with her husband Ascario and their daughters in a house they inherited a few years ago. Their house is located in a rural area far from the village. Most of its residents work farming and raising animals.

Carmen's idea was to open a grocery store here where she would sell basic food items to her customers, since there was no other such store in the area and most people had to travel kilometers in order to buy food. Over the years, she learned the business and served her customers well by keeping her store well stocked with all kinds of food. She plans to improve her store and expand it to include more products.

This is her second Kiva loan. During all this time, she has shown responsibility in paying her installments. She is grateful for this financial opportunity, which will help her improve. Carmen will invest the 1,500 soles in purchasing rice, sugar, milk, candy, drinks, and if there is enough money she will also buy office supplies.
