A loan of $1,000 helped to buy fertilizer and foliar sprays to protect her coffee crops.

Natalia's story

Natalia is 50 years old. She is a housewife and a farmer. Her family is large. She has 12 children, seven of which are married and live in their own homes. The other five live at home and help with the household chores and the different activities in the fields. Along with her life companion she grows coffee something she learned from her parents. Both their families are farmers and depend on the land for their livelihood. One of the greatest difficulties that faces the coffee farmer is the increase in price of the supplies that they use to help protect their coffee crops. Also the market prices for coffee are unstable and vary a lot which affects the maintenance of coffee crops. Competition is not a problem as each grower has their own clients according to the quality of the coffee produced. Their crops are located 25 minutes away from their home by foot. Their dream is to improve and expand their coffee crops planting a better variety, more attractive to their clients. In this manner they can generate greater revenues for the family and household, assuring the education and well-being of their children It is for this reason they are requesting a loan which they will invest buying 8 units of 18- 46-0 fertilizer, 3 bottles of foliar spray and 16 units of nutricafe (another foliar spray) to protect and secure their crops until the harvest.
