A loan of $1,000 helped to buy more hens and feed.

Josephine's story

Josephine is 32 years old and lives in the town of Lyantonde in the Mbarara region of Uganda. She is married and has five children, with four of them currently in school. For the past five years, Josephine has been working hard to manage her poultry business, which sells chicken.

To help expand her business, Josephine has requested a loan of 2,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more hens and feed, and will help Josephine to generate greater profits and increase her profit margin. Josephine hopes that in the future she will be able to have an expanded poultry house.

Josephine is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Josephine who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
