Martha Emilia's story

Martha is a founding member of the communal bank "Medio Ejido". She lives in the city of Cuenca, a place that is bathed by four rivers and which has many places to enjoy nature. Its historic center jealously preserves its history and the local people, like the members of the communal bank, struggle daily to improve their household economy. Thye work in different businesses and maintain the culture and traditions of the villages.

Martha, 32, is married and has four children, ages 15, 13, 10 and 6. Her two eldest attend middle school and the youngest two go to the city elementary school. Her husband is a jeweler by profession. They rent the house they live in.

Martha spends most of her time at home helping her husband run his business. She also cares for the children and in her spare time sells clothing by catalogue.

She will use the loan to buy clothing. Her dream is to have her own house one day and to expand her business.
