A loan of $725 helped to buy organic fertilizer.

Francisca's story

Francisca is 53 years old and is the mother of a family that loves farming. She is married to Luis and they have a son, Jarol, with whom they live in a house they own located outside the city. While her husband works in aviation mechanics, for the last sixteen years she has cared for her crops of citrus fruits, coffee and plantains with a lot of love, hiring workers to leave her crops clean. She likes to harvest her products because in them she sees that the efforts made were worthwhile, also as some lands are near harvest, primarily her oranges for consumption. She also says that it is difficult for her to keep them to sell to the collectors in her city or to the wholesalers from the market, because it suits her to sell them at the same farms.

She asserts that she has her own house and lands due to agriculture, and she is able to live without concerns, but she is also aware that she will be limited to leasing out her lands in the future. For this reason she has a space in her home and intends to open a grocery store that is very well stocked with food products.

She belongs to the “Las brisas” communal bank and this is their third loan with KIVA. She is happy to keep working with the members of the communal bank, who are very caring, welcoming and responsible people. Francisca will invest the 2,000 Peruvian nuevos soles in the purchase of organic fertilizer to nurture her crops.
