Mercy Marina's story

The Primero De Abril communal bank meets every two weeks in the Montecristi canton, known for its rich pre-colonial history and its handmade crafts, recognized nationally and internationally. It is the home of the famous paja toquilla hats.

This is where Mercy lives. She is 48 years old and the single mother of one son. He is 15 and in high school. She lives with her son and a sister who is also single. Mercy is a woman who is really a fighter and she likes to work honestly to get her son ahead. She sells Avon products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and women's accessories). In addition, she also sells charcoal from her house. It is used in food businesses. She works every day either in her house or as a street vendor. She sells her merchandise on credit and collects every weekend. She has had this business for more than 3 years and with it she gets her son ahead.

This loan is to buy perfumes, creams and cosmetics. She has been in the communal bank for 3 years and she likes it because of the help they give her through the loans. Her dreams are to give her son the best education.
