A loan of $525 helped a member to buy fertiliser and seeds.

Oye 3 Group's story

The 10 members of the Oye 3 group are married women, who are on average 47 years old with six children. They all live in polygamous families in Bandiagara, which is in the fifth administrative region of Mali.
Bandiagara is a locality that is made up of 90% of cliffs, where the women's main occupation is the culture and conditioning of onions. The women transport the arable earth to the uplands in order to prepare their terraces intended for their farming activities.
They collaborate with the Soro Yiriwaso micro-finance institution in order to manage their businesses over the end of the winter.
This is their first loan from the institution.
Djénéba, who is standing second from the left in the photo, mainly grows onions.
With her loan, she plans to buy seeds and fertiliser. After harvesting, she sells her production in the village and in Bandiagara to her clientele of men and women.
She hopes to make a profit of 20.000 Francs CFA by the end of the season. This income will enable her to help her husband with the family expenses (school fees for the children, health and food), to buy small ruminants and fowl, and to reinvest the rest in her business.
