A loan of $275 helped to purchase a mobile phone, solar charging set, and weighing scale, so that he may provide vital farming information to his community.

Sozi's story

Sozi is 45 years old and married, with six children. He earns his income through the sale of crops and he receives a monthly wage as a Community Knowledge Worker (CKW).

Community Knowledge Workers are trusted community members, who provide agricultural data and advice to rural farmers in their local area, including information about the weather, market prices, crop diseases, and agricultural tools. On his land, Sozi grows maize, cassava, and bananas.

Sozi has served as a CKW for the last two years and he looks forward to renewing his CKW contract for the next three years. As a CKW, he will use the materials in his business-in-a-box (smartphone, solar charging set, and weighing scale) to disseminate vital agricultural information to the other members of his village, which will help them to improve their crop yields and increase their incomes.

With the additional money he will earn as a CKW, Sozi will pay school fees for his children. His biggest dream in life is to start a cattle farm.
