A loan helped buy some oxen to help plow his land.

Aziz's story

Aziz is 26 years old and married with five children. He owns a farm upon which he grows maize, beans, rice, bananas, peanuts, peas, mangoes and cassava. He also has chickens and goats. He makes a living through the sale of crops and livestock.

Aziz also receives a monthly wage as a Community Knowledge Worker (CKW). These are trusted community members who provide agricultural data and advice to rural farmers in their local area, including information about the weather, market prices, crop diseases and agricultural tools.

Aziz has served as a CKW for the last two years, and he looks forward to renewing his CKW contract for the next three years. As a CKW he will use the materials in his business-in-a-box (smart phone, solar charging set and scale) to disseminate vital agricultural information to the other members of his village, which will help them to improve their crop yields and increase their incomes.

With the additional money he will earn as a CKW, Aziz will buy some oxen to help plow his land. His biggest dreams in life are to add more land to his farm and to buy some property and a nice car.
