Justo's story

Justo is 35 years old and married, with five children. He earns his income through the sale of crops, and he also receives a monthly compensation as a Community Knowledge Worker (CKW). Community Knowledge Workers are trusted community members who provide agricultural data and advice to rural farmers in their local area, including information about the weather, market prices, crop diseases, and agricultural tools. On his land Jackson grows maize, beans, potatoes, peanuts, and cassava. He also has goats, chicken, and pigs. Jackson has served as a CKW for the past two years, and he looks forward to renewing his CKW contract for the next three years. As a CKW, he will use the materials in his business-in-a-box (smartphone, solar-charging set, and weighing scale) to disseminate vital agricultural information to the other members of his village, which will help them to improve their crop yields and increase their incomes. With the additional money he will earn as a CKW, Jackson will rent more land to grow crops on, as he currently has only one acre. His biggest dream in life is to construct a wonderful home for his family.
