A loan of $3,775 helped a member to buy wool.

Virgen De Guadalupe Group's story

The “VIRGEN DE GUADALUPE” communal bank is starting their fourth cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Achacachi regional office. It is made up of 9 members with Sofía as president. The members of the communal bank operate a variety of businesses including: the sale of vegetables, selling sweets, the sale of quinoa, the weaving and selling of blankets, selling milk, fruit sales, a driver, and the sales of rugs. The loan will benefit all these micro-entrepreneurs.

One of them Sophia indicates that this is her first time to join Pro Mujer, joining on the invitation of her sister-in-law who is a member of the institution. Sophia weaves and sells blankets. She explains that she started this business a year ago and this loan is to increase her stock.

The loan Sophia is requesting will be used to increase her working capital (buying wool) that she will purchase at wholesalers in the city of El Alto. After weaving the blankets she will sell them at her sales place. Working in this manner allows her to generate resources to support her household. She is in a common-law relationship and has three children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, Sophia replied that she liked the savings that are made in the institution.
