Teresita Del Socorro's story

Teresita, 54, has worked as a domestic employee in private homes for many years and earns enough income this way to help her husband cover household expenses since he works in construction and sometimes this occupation is unstable and uncertain. They used to live in a popular neighborhood in the city but due to violence and gang warfare she and her husband had to move to a different neighborhood to preserve their lives for they were exposed to many external risks. Aiming at improving their income and change activity, she decided to open her own business and work independently. She resigned from the job she had and used her severance pay and some savings she had to open a small grocery store about 7 months ago. She installed it in a small space at home and bought shelving and stock to start her productive project. Her perseverance, drive and enterprising spirit have led her to seek new alternatives that will make it possible for her to continue forward. This is what motivates her to request the loan she wants to use to buy a cooler and stock at wholesale (meat products, dairy products, packaged snacks, grains, cleaning supplies, etc.) This will allow her to have more variety of products on-hand to meet customer needs and wants which will result in a significant increase in sales and profits earned from her labor. In this way, Teresita intends to continue working to move her business forward becoming known for the good service and variety and quality of goods she sells. She wants to turn it into a profitable activity so she can rest from her work as a domestic employee. She also wants to support her husband so that they can enjoy well-being and quality of life and to live a peaceful old-age at the side of her beloved husband.
