A loan of $575 helped to buy dresses and sandals.

Shirly's story

Shirly, 34, has been involved in commerce since she was very young and using that experience started her own business four years ago to generate income to help cover her household expenses. Her family consists of her spouse and three children whose ages range between 7 and 13 years. They are her life’s moving force and because of this she plans to consolidate her business aiming at attaining better well-being each time.

She works weekends from 2 in the afternoon to 8 at night making and selling meals and pastries and as a complementary activity works every day selling varied merchandise like footwear and clothing. She sells for cash and on credit and she makes her purchases in central Barranquilla where she finds the best offers that impact her clientele.

She’s currently applying for a Kiva loan, her first financing with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, to buy dresses and sandals in order to be well-stocked for the year’s highest sales season: Christmas and New Year’s.
