A loan of $775 helped to buy chickens, pigs, and animal feed.

Carmen's story

Señora Carmen is part of the Arco Iris [Rainbow] credit group. She is currently taking her third loan alongside her friends and groupmates. She likes the group because of the companionship and bond that exists in it. She lives in the vicinity of the Turi parish in Cuenca. This parish is known as the “Mirador,” or Vantage Point, because from the highest point you can see most of the city; this place is very touristy. The people work raising animals and farming, and many work in various jobs in the city.

Señora Carmen is 36 years old. She lives in a common-law relationship and has a 3 year old child. Her husband works as a construction worker. The house they live in belongs to relatives.

Doña Carmen works doing the housework, but she also supports her household raising animals such as chickens, pigs, guinea pigs, and cattle, and also through her gardening, which is more for her family to eat.

She is going to invest the money from the loan in the purchase of chickens, pigs, and animal feed. Her goal is to have her own home.
