A loan of $600 helped to buy a dairy cow.

Deysi Marina's story

She comments that she started her business, buying milk and making it into cheese, when her husband went to the Unites States. She collected this milk by horse, as at that time there were no streets, just paths and lanes. She also had her own cows. She would then travel to the city, where she sold her cheese. She would go as far as the town on horseback, then by foot to the city carrying the cheese. Her children used to help her to milk and feed the animals before going to school, and would then walk for an hour to get to the town and an hour back again after school. In the afternoon they used to feed the pigs, which Deysi would fatten with the whey left over from making cheese, and so make an extra income.

She will use the loan to buy a calved cow, in order to have milk and make cheese curds at home In the future she would like to have a more peaceful life without so much work, as she feels that she has worked very hard in this life. At the same time, she would like to develop the store that she now has in her house, in orer to have a more comfortable existence and a more secure food supply.
