A loan of $975 helped to buy bags, backpacks, suitcases, and satchels.

Ronald's story

Ronald, 22 years of age, has a small business in the center of the city, where he sells travel bags such as backpacks, suitcases, satchels, etc. When he was 15, his experience in retail began: it was his mother's idea, and she gave him her unconditional support, making him live the experience of retail for himself.

So it was that when he was preparing to tackle the market itself, his father became disabled, and he began his task on his own. He now sells, taking in cash, and buys from various places in Barranquilla, as well as from a border town. In these places he finds wares at a good price, which he passes on to his own buyers.

He is currently applying for a Kiva loan, his first one with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, which he will use to buy bags, backpacks, suitcases, and satchels. Vacation time is getting close for many of his clients, and Ronald must be prepared with items that are well-priced, very comfortable, and modern.

His long-term goal is to have a large storage space and improve his living conditions, but his biggest challenge is the competition and the rise and fall of sales. So he takes advantage of every season, to make the most of it and increase his earnings.
