Hilman Maurillo’s married. He’s 37-years-old and completed fifth grade in primary school. He has five children three of whom are in school. He works in agriculture growing potatoes, carrots, cabbage and broccoli. He started working for a producer and to date has 10 years’ experience.

He organized a group to request a loan that will be used to buy fertilizer for his crops. In the near future he’d like to have more land to be able to plant more vegetables.

El señor Hilman Maurilio es casado. Con 37 años de edad. De escolaridad 5 años de educacion primaria. Tiene 5 hijos y de ellos 3 estan estudiando. Se dedica a la agriculruta, cosecha papas, zanahorias, repollo y brocoli. Inició este negocio trabajando para una productora y a la fecha lleva 10 años de experiencia.

Organiza un grupo y solicita un préstamo que lo utilizará para la compra de fertilizante para sus cosechas. En el futuro cercano desea contar con mas tierras para poder sembrar más hortalizas.

Las demás integrantes del grupo se dedican a la siembra de hortalizas y crinanza de animales domésticos.

About Asociación ASDIR

ASDIR (Asociación de Desarrollo Integral Rural - Association for the Development of Rural Communities) is a community-based organization that works to promote development in the villages and communities where it serves. It was founded in 1999 in the village of Nimasac, Totonicapán Department, by a handful of local men and women to support community projects and group loans. Today ASDIR has 5 offices across 3 departments (Totonicapán, Sololá and Suchitepéquez) serving more than 6,000 clients, most of them in rural communities.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
