Claudia Patricia's story

Claudia is 37 years old and has a small business in the centre of Barranquilla. There she has been selling clothes, phone accessories, and DIY products for seven years. After being displaced from her town of birth, Claudia came to this city many years ago and settled in an area near the city market. She met her husband there. Caludia was given support by the Colombian government and started her own business, Claudia's determination and dedication quckly allowed her to progress. She now has two stalls in the city market, where she sells for cash and on credit every day. She buys from distributors who offer her good prices. Claudia sells to her main customers, street vendors, and to passers-by, who are attracted by the stalls. Claudia has had two loans from the "Fundación Mario Santo Domingo". With these she has been able to expand her business, and have a greater amount of stock, giving her the chance to offer more choice to her customers. Claudia's biggest challenge is the competition but, little by little, Claudia's experience has helped her to win over customers from her competitors. Claudia is applying for a Kiva, which she will use to buy clothes, women's accessories, DIY products, and toys. Christmas is approaching and so she will be able to sell this kind of stock and make her investment a success.
