A loan of $800 helped to increase his inventory.

Fred's story

Fred is 42 years old and lives in the town of Bugiri in the region of Uganda. He is married and has six children with three of them currently in school. For the past eight years, Fred has been working hard to manage his retail shop.

To help expand his business, Fred has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to increase his stock, and will help Fred to generate greater profits and create employment opportunities for the family members. Fred hopes that in the future he will be able to have a sustainable business.

Fred is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Fred who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for micro-loans.
