One of the breadwinners in the family consisting of seven kids is Norn, a 61-year-old married mother. To ensure the daily basic needs of her family, she grows rice and raises pigs and cows with manpower support from her husband. She has been engaged in her current business for several years and she is able to earn almost $6 USD per day. This is the first microloan for Norn with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). For this loan cycle, she has applied for an education loan to pay the tuition fee for her daughter who wants to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. She hopes that her daughter can continue her studies, graduate and get a good job.

VisionFund Cambodia has designed a lower-interest rate loan product for students, given the financial benefits associated with financing this loan upfront on Kiva. It is disbursed to the borrower in annual installments.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
