The “AGUILAS DE CHAGUAYA” communal bank is beginning their first cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Achacachi regional office. It is composed of 11 members and led by a board of Directors, with Luisa as President. The member's businesses are varied including: the sale of blankets, selling sweaters, selling soft drinks, the sale of groceries and selling cooked food. The loan will benefit all these micro-entrepreneurs.

One member, Luisa indicates that this is her first time to join Pro Mujer. She was invited by a friend who belongs to the institution. Luisa buys and sells livestock. She tells us that she learned this trade as a child helping her parents. She started her own business with a small amount of capital she had.

The loan Luisa is requesting is to increase her working capital (buying cattle) that she will purchase in neighboring communities. After raising them she'll sell them in the markets close to her home. This form of work allows her to generate resources to help support her household. She lives in a common-law relationship and has six children. When asked what she liked about Pro Mujer she responded that she liked the teaching sessions and the savings.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
