A loan of $1,650 helped to buy two sows, to build two more corrals and to buy animal feed.

Gladys Del Socorro's story

Gladys is a farmer born into a family of farmers and miners; a humble, hardworking family she owes everything she’s learned about field work to. Thanks to this, today she works raising cattle and pigs, an activity that makes it possible for her to support her home. She feeds the animals, inseminates the sows so they will produce offspring, cares for them during labor, vaccinates them and does all procedures needed to insure their proper care.

Her cattle serves a double purpose for she sells the males for meat and keeps the females for milk production generating income to cover all her basic household needs. She lives with her three children.

Her drive, discipline and the love she has for her work allow her to find new alternatives always to continue making progress. She’s motivated to seek her second loan to buy two sows to raise, to build two more corrals and to buy feed concentrate to feed the animals. This will give her the opportunity to grow in business because pig production will increase for the upcoming Christmas season when demand of pork increases. She will increase income earned that will help her continue making progress towards reaching her goal of having a well-organized farm with many animals that the entire family can work in giving them the opportunity to improve their quality of life.
