A loan of $2,200 helped a member to purchase secondhand clothing to sell.

Etoile Group's story

The seven members of the group ETOILE are married women, who average 40 years of age and five children each, all living mostly in monogamous families in OUAYERMA I, a working-class district of Sikasso City, in the 3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali. The women are on their sixth loan with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to meet the needs of their customer.

Ms. AMINATA, who is sitting at the far left, does commerce in secondhand clothing in this group. She intends to use her loan to purchase 2 bales of used clothing, which she will sell retail for cash to men and women customers at a fixed spot with family in Sikasso.

She envisions making an average monthly profit 35,000 francs CFA. Part of the profits is used to pay back the loan with interest, and the other part goes to her savings.
