A loan of $1,275 helped to buy wood.

Jessenia Monserrate's story

The "24 De Diciembre" [December 24th] Communal Bank meets once every two weeks in Montecristi Canton, known for its rich precolonial culture and its nationally and internationally recognized handicrafts, and home of the famous straw hats. This is where Jessenia lives. She is 25 and is married, and she and her husband have two kids aged eight and one, the older of which goes to school. Her husband is a cabinetmaker. Jessenia is a very good wife who wants to take out a loan for the family business. Her husband has a cabinet making business which supports the whole family. At his workshop he makes doors, beds, and all types of furniture. Jessenia's husband works filling orders from customers who know he does quality work and order furniture they need from him. One reason he always has work is that he does a good job, as well as because he is responsible, completing orders on time. There are days when Jessenia helps him so he can finish a job on time. He has had his workshop for seven years and thankfully has almost always had work. This loan will be used to buy wood for making furniture. Jessenia has been in the communal bank since its inception and she likes it because it allows her to contribute to household finances. Her dream is to provide the best for her kids.
