Carmen Del Rocio's story

The communal bank "Siempre Unidas" meets every two weeks in Jipijapa canton, which is named for a coffee sultan and is know for its extensive coffee farms, for its food, and for its friendly residents. Carmen, 37, lives here. She is married and has three children, ages 19, 16, and 8, with her husband. Her children still live with her and are students in college, high school, and elementary school. Her husband is a merchant.

Carmen sells Belcorp brand catalog merchandise (beauty items, cosmetics, perfume, and women's accessories) to earn income. She works every day, usually in the morning because it is easier to make her rounds at this time. Her daughters also help by selling merchandise at their schools. She offers weekly credit terms. She has run her business for 10 years, and it is prospering and she has many clients. She mostly sells cosmetics and perfume because the products are good and the prices are reasonable.

She will use this loan to buy perfumes, costume jewelry, cosmetics, and creams. She has been a communal bank member for 12 years, and she likes that she started her business with one of the loans. Her dream is to see her children graduate and become professionals.
