A loan of $1,700 helped to purchase fabrics to sew quilted blankets.

Salimakhon's story

Salimakhon lives in the city of Konibodom and is 59 years old. She sews quilted folk blankets. For a long time quilted blankets and pillows have been necessary household items of the Tajik people, and to this day they remain popular. Quilted blankets are necessary items during the cold winter. For many decades the Tajik people have used these blankets and they do not plan on giving them up for new synthetic blankets. Salimakhon has been sewing blankets for about 9 years, and learned to sew from her mother. Salimakhon sews the top parts of the blanket with beautiful fabrics so that winter won't be simply warm, but also pretty. Each day new types of fabric and materials arrive in the city, and Salimakhon is asking for a loan to purchase beautiful fabric. This will help her to find new and regular customers.
