A loan of $1,075 helped to buy crafts and paint.

Letty María's story

The communal bank "Para el Futuro de la Mujer" meets every 15 days in La Pila in the Montecristi Canton. The place is very well-known in the province and country for its rich traditional culture. Here many crafts are made by the local people who follow traditional customs.

Letty, 30, lives here. She and her common-law husband have a six-year-old son who attends school and she is pregnant with her second child. Her husband is a merchant.

Letty and her husband buy and sell ornaments made from seeds, and pottery in different shapes and sizes. They have a shop on the main street that many shoppers visit daily and their work schedule is from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They buy unfinished the crafts from artisans who visit the area, but then finish and sell them at a good price. For over ten years they have been in business and able to get ahead.

This loan will be used to buy a wider variety of crafts and paint to finish the goods. Letty has been a member of the communal bank for over five years and she enjoys it because the loans are very helpful.

Her dream is to have a healthy baby.
