A loan of $1,700 helped to purchase handicrafts and gas cylinders.

Ana Soledad's story

In the parish of Montecristi Canton, the communal bank “Para el Futuro de la Mujer” (For the Future of Women) meets every fifteen days. This place is very well known in the province and the country for its rich traditional culture. Here you can find a great variety of handicrafts that are made by the residents according to the customs of their ancestors. In this place lives Ana; she is 36 years old and is married. From this relationship they have two children of 14 and 4 years. The oldest is in high school. Her husband is an artisan. Ana is a wonderful homemaker who, in order to have her own resources, installed a small store outside her house. There, she sells all kinds of handiworks, and gas for household use. She started more than 2 years ago and gets very good earnings, because in her area there are very few places that sell gas, which is so necessary for the houses. She works every day from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. She has been selling handicrafts for more than 12 years and gas for 2 years. This loan is to purchase more handiwork and gas canisters, which provides her with the most income. She has been in the communal bank for 8 years, and she likes it because of the help that they give in getting ahead. Her dream is to continue expanding her business.
