A loan of $3,000 helped a member to buy foodstuffs.

La Estancia (Paute) Group's story

The “La Estancia” communal bank consists of 7 women living in Paute Canton, a place with much natural beauty with fertile soil where the most beautiful flowers and a great variety of fruit are grown; its climate is mild. Its residents like the members are kind, gracious women who strive daily to improve their economic stability to get ahead. They work doing agricultural tasks, raising animals and in commerce. Despite daily difficulties that exist, they are always smiling.

One of the members is Carla. She’s taking out her first loan with her friends and neighbors in La Estancia group; she was invited by a friend and now she’s the president of this beautiful group. She hopes that all of them together can reach their goals and dreams to provide better futures for their children.

Carla is 19-years-old and single mother of a one-and-a-half-year-old girl. She lives with her siblings and shares household expenses with them. The house is their parents’ property.

Carla has had her own business for the last 8 months. She sells food Tuesday through Sunday starting very early and continues until about 5 in the afternoon. Her aunt is her business partner. She will use the loan money to buy foodstuffs needed for her business to continue growing. Her goal is to complete high-school.

In this group: Karla Aracerly, María Angeles, María Del Carmen, María Rosa Elvira, Carmita De Lourdes, Nancy Isabel, María Adoracion
