A loan of $1,200 helped to buy a bull for his cows and four bags of compost for his corn plantations.

Luís Alonso's story

48-year-old Luis studied up to the fourth grade. He could not continue studying because of the war. He is in a relationship and has five children. Four of them do not live with him; they have their own families. He lives with his two-year-old child and his partner, who works with him in agriculture.

Luis has worked in agriculture since he was eight, taught by his father. He says that his father told him that it was better to learn how to work in order to maintain his family once he got married. Today, he thanks his father because he can make a living, but he thinks that if he had studied, he would have more opportunities. He also owns four cows. His day starts at 4 am. While he milks the cows, his wife prepares coffee and breakfast. He then takes the cows to graze and continues with his activities for around six hours.

Luis will use the loan to buy a bull for his cows and to buy four bags of compost for a 7,000 m2 plot planted with corn. His dream is to have twenty milk cows that can provide food for the family. He also wants to build a brick house, since he lives in a wooden one at the moment. Finally, he would like to see his youngest son become a professional, since the other children did not want to.
