A loan of $1,000 helped to purchase cleaning items such as brooms, mops, and brushes and more clothing, as her business is gaining more customers and higher demand for products.

Edelmira's story

Edelmira is 69 and divorced from her husband for over ten years. She is the mother of three adult children, all married, one of whom lives nearby. Edelmira has only a second-grade education because when she was a child, her parents said that education wasn't important. Edelmira therefore stayed home helping manage the family's home.

Over 40 years ago, Edelmira started a business selling clothing, wood and aluminum products, and various other goods in order to generate additional income for her family. She sells her goods door to door and goes to an island where some relatives live to sell to people there, staying on the island three days each week because it's so far from her home.

Edelmira will use funds from this loan to purchase more merchandise for the business, including cleaning products such as brooms, mops, brushes, and more clothing. The business is generating more customers and demand for products is growing.

Edelmira hopes to keep the business growing in the future and notes that given her age it won't be possible to keep selling door to door. She therefore plans to set up a shop where she can run the business and maintain a regular income.
