Bunthy's Group

Bunthy is 46 years old and lives with his wife and three children in a rural village in the Moung Russey district. Rice farming is the main source of family income and he has been farming rice for about 10 years. To supplement his income, he also sells dessert in the village. The current business earns his family a daily income of about KHR 32,000 and he is able to save KHR 18,000 each day.

This is the eighth loan for Bunthy with Kiva partner, VisionFund. With the successful previous loans, he has been able to better support his family. He is now leading his group to apply for a loan. As the leader, he will use his portion to buy fertilizer and seeds for his farmland. He hopes this loan will enable him to make a better living.

The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
