A loan of $3,475 helped a member to buy milk to make cheese.

Illampu Group's story

The community bank ILLAMPU is composed of eight members, six women and two men. The president of the bank is Eulogia, who is 44 years old. Eulogia has her own herd of cows, and she works selling milk and cheese that she makes. This is Eulogia’s first loan with the community bank. She will use it to buy extra milk to increase her production of cheese. Eulogia says that she needs the loan to do this because she does not have money on hand. She says that the loan will be a big help, because it let her buy a large quantity of milk to make more cheese to improve her income. Eulogia says that her business faces some challenges, one of which is the ongoing need to buy feed for her cows. She says that she will use her profits to increase the size of her herd, and she hopes to one day sell her cheese wholesale to the various markets in the city of La Paz.
