A loan of $500 helped to purchase chick feed and increase poultry production.

Nohlahla's story

Nohlahla is a 24-year-old single young woman living in the Umguza District of Zimbabwe. She inspires young women in her community as both a Cama Community Health Trainer and an entrepreneur. She started her poultry business in 2011 after noticing an increase in demand for Rhode Island chickens with lean meat. She currently produces about 120 chickens every 6 weeks and sells them to the local customers.

Nohlahla knows that she could sell more chickens each month, but because all of her income is needed to provide for two children who are dependent upon her, she is unable to spend her current profits to expand her business. With this Kiva loan, she will be able to grow her business by buying more broiler chicks, chick feed and organic manure to increase production. With this investment in her business, her profits will increase and she will be able to care for her two dependents and keep them in school.
