Samet is 48 years old and a rural villager residing in the Kos Krolo district of Battambang Province. He has four children, two of whom are students. To overcome the daily financial burden in the family, he has been farming rice, planting cassava, and growing corn for ten years. He and his wife are able to earn about 42,000 KHR per day from the current business.
Samet has not been with VisionFund in the past but he is now seeking an education loan with VisionFund, Kiva’s partner, to pay for his son’s tuition fees for the faculty of General Management. He hopes that this loan will provide financial support for his son, so he can focus on his studies and obtain a good job after the graduation.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
