A loan of $400 helped to purchase fertilizers.

José Orlando's story

José is a 54-year-old farmer and rancher who lives with his partner and their seven children, ages 29, 25, 18, 12, 10, 8 and 2. The oldest child works, but the others are all in school. José's wife sells fruits and vegetables but also helps him with farm labor.

José has worked in agriculture for 40 years since his father taught him everything he knows. All of José's children help him on the farm, doing the various tasks required to care for the ranch animals.

José will use this loan to purchase fertilizer for a plot of land where he's planted corn. He expects a strong harvest and a good price when he sells the corn. This income will allow José to purchase a dairy herd that he can feed with the remaining corn.
