A loan of $7,000 helped to pay for Home and Garden trade show fees and to purchase equipment.

Jose Alfredo's story

Jose Alfredo established his business, CMJ Painting and Refinishing, over 15 years ago in Anaheim. However, he has been working as re-furnisher for about 30 years. His expertise is apparent in his beautifully crafted work. He can make an old cabinet look new with only a few hours work, but Jose puts in a lot of hours in his work. He works about 70 hours a week. When asked how he manages to work so hard, he responded, "I work for my family; for my wife and my son. My wife is blind and cannot work. She has many medical bills, so I work very hard to provide for her."

With the economic downturn in 2008, Jose saw his sales go down and the last few years have been very tough. Now that things have gotten a bit better, he is eager to get sales back up, but he needs to purchase and upgrade his equipment to maintain the quality of his work. He is also looking to increase the marketing of his business by attending Home and Garden trade shows.

With this $7,000 loan from KIVA, he will be able to market his business and get the equipment he needs to continue operating.
