A loan of $550 helped to pay for maintenance on his vehicle.

Mario's story

Marío, 37 years old, is hard-working. He lives with his wife, Manuela, and their four children. Mario has been looking after them in a rented house for two years. From Monday to Friday, Mario works as a builder in the morning. The work is going well and he always has contracts to build houses. He now also works in the afternoons as he wants his children to get ahead. Mario has a motorcycle taxi which he uses to offer transportation to people who live in the city's outskirts. Mario tells us that: "In the afternoon there are more people about, so I work at this time". On Saturdays and Sundays he works with the motorcycle taxi all day long as there are a lot of people around, due to the cattle and food fairs held in the city. Mario has had this business for ten years. His secret is that he always keeps his vehicle in good condition. He says, "As well as looking after the vehicle, every year I sell it so as to buy a new one. That way the value of the vehicle doesn't fall, and it doesn't get damaged". This is Mario's second Kiva loan. He is grateful for this financial opportunity as it will help him to increase his income. Mario promises to be punctual with his repayments. Mario will invest this loan of 1500 Nuevo Soles in maintaining his motorcycle taxi and this way he will be able to continue working in peace.
