A loan of $550 helped to buy coloured wool so as to continue with her business.

Elvira's story

Elvira is 45 years old and lives in the house that she inherited from her parents. Elvira is a happy and hard-working woman. She lives in her own house, alongside her husband, César, and her three, dear children, whom she loves very much. Elvira makes a living through different work during the day. She knits hats, scarves, gloves, and weaves products. Elvira very much likes knitting and she is very skilled in this area. She sells her products from a small stall in the artisan centre of the town of San Pedro de Cajas. She always sells her products very quickly. What Elvira most likes about her work is the knitting. She really enjoys this activity, something which can be seen in the finished product. Elvira has been doing this work for 32 years. In addition, Elvira sows potatoes one a year. She does it only once a year so that the land is more fertile and produces a good product. Elvira earns good profits with this work. She also receives support from her husband who has a communal radio in the town. In the future, Elvira hopes to save enough money to open a bigger shop to sell the artisan, woolen products. There she would be able to sell her products in peace. This is Elvira's fourth Kiva loan and she is grateful for the financial support as, with it, her income will improve. Elvira promises to be punctual with her repayments. Elvira will invest the 1500 Nuevo Soles in buy coloured wools in order to continue knitting her products.
