The “La Primavera” (Spring) communal bank consists of 8 members, six women and two men. The bank president is Mary, 34. She has two children aged 4 and 7. Her economic activity is selling seasonal fruit. She’s been in this occupation for ten years and the loan will be used to buy seasonal fruit at wholesale to stock her stand. Mary is a hardworking woman who is the only source of income and feels grateful to the institution for the support it’s provided her. Her fruit stand is in one of the central zone’s markets and Mary hopes to have a store where she can offer a variety of products and increase her clientele to generate higher income.

This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
